We furtively discover Tsutsui on the occasion of a junior go tournament he is participating. We find him again some pages later while he is holding a go stand at his school fair. He rapidly gets on well with Hikaru and helps him to progress (in complement of Sai's lessons)

A nice and serious boy.

As soon as we discover Tsutsui, seeing how he looks like and his big glasses falling non-stop on is nose, we guess he must be the kind of boy always reading books. And this first impression is not wrong!

Quiet and serious, Tsutsui is not less than a very nice and helpful boy. He doesn't hesitate to give Hikaru a lecture about the way he speaks to Akari.

Besides he patiently teach go to Akari (even though it is hopeless). Tsutsui is as well a straight person and he has difficulties to forgive Mitani's past errors. He doesn't like cheats.

As he is a very pleasant person, there is a general agreement about him. He becomes friend with Hikaru very quickly and Akari cries when he leaves the school. Despite their diametrically opposed nature, he seems to be friend with Kaga. He can sometimes get angry when it is necessary and call Kaga to order, for even if he is quite conciliating, Tsutsui is no longer weak.

Faithful when it comes to friendship, we find him at the end of the manga during the Hukuto cup when he is at Hikaru's matches.

Passion for go but not very gifted.

There is absolutely no doubt that Tsutsui has a big passion for go. He must probably read go magazines because he has always a lot of information, and he even knows Akira Toya. It is him as well who takes Hikaru to a pro game.

But even if he seems to be very assiduous, Tsutsui is a weak player. He generally isn't mistaken when it comes to Yose but he is still widely under Mitani and Kaga's level. At the beginning of the manga, he even plays with his tsumego book.

He doesn't give up for all of that and even manages to pass his passion on to the other members of his club.

Founder of Haze's go club

Courageous, in order to assuage his passion, Tsutsui has created a go club in Haze high school. His aim is to gather a team to take part in the high school tournament.

The only problem, despite all the advertising he has made, is that he is the only member there. He couldn't even persuade Kaga.

With Hikaru's coming, he can realize his dream and create a club worthy of the name.

Afterwards he will be rewarded for his efforts, staying in the memories as the legendary Tsutsui, founder of Haze's go club.
