When people enumerates qualities of the Hikaru no go, no one can forget to mention Takeshi Obata's talent and inimitable style.
At the beginning, the faces were very expressive and sometimes grimacing (like a typical shonen manga). His style has changed to become more elegant and elaborate with chara more sober in their expression but also more realistic.
Besides the manga, his color illustrations are gathered in an art book (Sai art book)..
He works many hours on each color draw. For example, the cover of the book 15 took him 9 hours. |  |
The animated series largely contributed to the success of Hikaru no go. In contrary of many series, Hikaru no go's animated series, is a high quality one and is
extremely faithful to the manga (same plans). We don't find (and fortunately!) bad added episodes which waste the scenario's coherence.
Moreover, the drawing is very faithful to the manga, even if, we don't find completely the richness of Obata's superb drawings (the faces are rounder for example).
Studio Pierrot has realized Hikaru no go animated serie (and also's Naruto, Saiyuki and Ayashi No ceres' ones...) and made a large effort to maintain a constant visual quality on the whole episodes.
