Yumi Hotta is the scriptwriter of Hikaru no go. She was born in 1954 and she is married with Kiyonari Hotta, who is himself an author of mangas (especially on horse races). By the way, she often works with him. Following a contest organized by the Shûeisha editions, she wrote her first real scenario which was called Kokonotsu no Hoshi before becoming Hikaru no go . Then she took an associate, Takeshi Obata, to the drawings. Hikaru no go quickly becomes a success. In 2000, she wins moreover the award Shogakukan for this series. The scenario highly coherent of Hikaru no go that she has written, her attaching, and not too Manichean, characters are the reasons of the success of this manga. |
She plays go herself, but at a modest level. So Yukari Umezawa, go professional, helps her for the technical details. Hikaru no go finished, she begins a new series untitled: Yuuto on speed skating. |

Takeshi Obata is the drawer of Hikaru no go. He was born on February, 11th, in 1969. Before drawing Hikaru no go , , he had made a few mangas which had a limited success, especially Rampou (Arabian majin bokentan lamp lamp in japanese) and Cyborg Jî Chan G which will only be published following the success of Hikaru no go. He quickly realised he drew better than he wrote and so he becomes partner with Yumi Hotta to realize Hikaru no go

The quality of the drawings is undeniably one of the keys of the manga's success. Indeed he has a realist style, and he cares about doing details well (He likes lingering over usual objects; the characters change their clothes every day, have their own look and they age during the manga…) and the decors are very stunning, which allow the lectors to come into the history. By the way, more of a quarter of the boxes of the manga is composed of three successive plans. The places where the characters of Hikaru no go move, are more often inspired of real places. The Nihon ki-in, for example, has been drowning exactly. Obata has made hundreds photos to realise his pictures. He also draws following the principle: an idea = a picture. He passes around ten hours to realise a covers (colours). |

Hikaru no go finished, he draws now a new success series: Death Note which I really recommend to everyone!!! To more information, read his interview in the 18th volume.

Sakon has been studying Bunraku ever since he was a child and has bonded strangely with a puppet named Ukon, passed down through his family. Sakon uses his mastery of puppetry as well as ventriloquism to bring Ukon to life. Often it seems that Ukon has a life and spirit of his own. This is evident most in their different personalities. Ukon is very brash and open, whereas Sakon is reserved.
So what do a gorgeous young puppeteer and a loudmouth puppet do all day? They wander the Japanese countryside and solve murder mysteries!
